In Between Shows

This is still (more or less) a fashion blog, so let’s actually do it a little bit of justice for once, shall we?

Here it comes, drumrolls please:

Paris Fashion Week Roundup by JK

Let’s start at the very beginning. The less glamorous part. Because no, I did not arrive in a blacked-out car with a fancy driver named François, and thousands to spend on a luxurious hotel. My fashion week began at the train station, at 4AM, freezing my butt off. Tell me why summer literally went by in the blink of an eye?

Anyways, delays happened (what else would you expect?) and I even missed a show because of that (thanks SNCF, love u). Honestly though? Probably for the best, because I was not only sleep-deprived but also extremely sick. A sneezing, coughing kind of mess. Imagine me sitting at a show with outrageous coughing attacks, that might as well land me on the list with people disturbing fashion week. Maybe the universe saved me from that, so thanks I guess..

I stayed at the cheapest Airbnb I could find, but chef’s kiss location (it was even cheaper than in less central arrondissements). Right next to Galeries Lafayette. Was it chic? No. Did it have Parisian charm? Yes. Did I nearly die dragging my 100kg suitcase up to the third floor because of course there was no elevator? ALSO yes.

Took a victory nap right after.

When I finally stepped out, first thing I see? Wisdm crossing the street in front of me. Twice, actually. Once more a few days later. (Also can someone confirm whether Carti was in the city? Because if yes I might have seen him too LOL #random)

Next day, breakfast first: thought I’d do the cool Parisian influencer café thing… ended up at the back of a queue that was longer than my will to live. So boulangerie it was. Croissant, merci, next.

Now enough with my messy journey, let’s talk actual fashion moments.

First of all, ✨Lyas✨ introducing watch parties? LIFE CHANGING, everything we needed and more. The way he spoke to Anna W? Iconic. He’s literally giving the fashion world accessibility and community, which it desperately needed. One of the biggest highlights of this season for me. #FAB

Also, the exhibition of Virgil Abloh’s work, I can’t even put his impact into words. Seeing so many people visit and being inspired by his designs, his influence is truly unmatched and beyond. The man really touched every creative corner and seeing it all in one place, chills big time.

Now let’s voice some opinions on selected shows:

Saint Laurent started with leather jackets and pencil skirts and ended with stunning gowns, really showing the brand’s versatility. Also their show set up was AMAZING! And Bella walking #fangirl. (Sidenote: starting their stream with Chris Briney and basically giving him more screen time than The Summer I Turned Pretty was kinda hilarious. His fit was good though.)

Standing ovation for Jonathan Andersons’s Dior show was well deserved in my opinion. I know everyone is saying it but here you can read it again: the shoes will sell like crazy.

During my trip I also had the chance to visit the Dior museum and I must say the brand universe they’ve built there is truly special. A wonderful way to experience and understand the brand and its origins. Truly a great showcase of Dior’s identity for the masses.

When it comes to Duran Lantink’s first collection for JPG #sorrynotsorry but that basically was d*** in your face (to quote HauteLeMode here). Don’t get me wrong, I get the whole provoke thing and probably also the reference, but in my opinion it had the wrong execution. Because do we really need full dick prints and hairy torsos? That being said, it definitely got people talking, and if provoking a reaction was the goal (which it probably was), it worked.

I’ve heard split opinions about Matthieu Blazy’s debut Chanel collection, but in my opinion: finally a fresh breeze through Rue Cambon, I guess let’s see where it takes us. While I especially thought the final look was great, I think the bags still have some potential.

Talking models: Alex, Loli, Anok (her aura is unmatched), Mona, and so many more really had their moments this season and they definitely know how to walk a runway and work a camera.

This brings me to the genius H&M ad. Models running between shows in H&M off-duty looks? Actually made sense. Whoever pitched it deserves a raise. The execution during PFW was great, and it felt kinda organic.

One evening I spontaneously ended up at the LARUICCI presentation/ store opening, and I must say it was quite fun. I didn’t know a single soul, which is the best case scenario because you end up talking to literally everyone. Made me realize I definitely missed the fashion crowd, the people, the energy, and ngl, the free drinks. Had a chat with a guy from New York who told me I “should totally move to Brooklyn,” then in the same breath said he lives in Manhattan. Well… my inner Carrie Bradshaw definitely doesn’t think Brooklyn is such a good idea..

Overall you could say Fashion Week was in the air. The whole city was buzzing and everywhere you went (at least in the hyped-up places), you overheard people talking about shows, presentations, afterparties, missed parties, and so on.

Fun Fact: French toast in French is pain perdu which translates to ‘lost bread’. Unfortunately my lost ass is back in Germany now, someone safe me and fly me to a sunny island, please.

Small life update: I’m moving. Again. Who’s surprised? Exactly no one.

Always keep movin’ babes
